About Us

History

Nature’s Edge began on February 21st, 2001. After passing out flyers and marketing to many homeowners in the Tuscaloosa, Al area, Nature’s Edge was able to acquire just a few clients who were interested in Softscape services. The first client of Nature’s Edge lived in Tuscaloosa, Al, and Nature Edge was able to successfully install a backyard renovation. This renovation included Softscapes and hardscapes which are still unchanged today. The company began as a Softscape company that provided all Landscape Installation needs of homeowners, but in 2004, Nature’s Edge expanded to offer maintenance services. Nature’s Edge began with just a few maintenance clients by purchasing a small company, and then grew into the strong maintenance division it has today. In 2011, Nature’s Edge started to offer Irrigation & Lighting services. This has grown into a strong division of the company that is finishing out the “Full Package” of all landscape needs of the clients currently serviced today.

About the Owner

John Robert Saunders III is the current CEO / President of Nature’s Edge L.L.C. John started his career in the green industry, at the age of 15, while working at a local nursery, Hannah’s Garden Shop. John went to Jefferson State Community College and acquired an Associates Degree in Business and began his current landscaping company. The company was originally named Maple Leaf Landscaping and was a small operation due to the time constraints of his schooling.

John then attended The University of Alabama and enrolled in a new degree called “Small Company Management and Entrepreneurship.” After 3 years of schooling and growing his business, John then decided to move his business back to his hometown of Birmingham, Al and change the name to Nature’s Edge. L.L.C. Once arriving in Birmingham, John’s business began to grow. Over many years of growing his Softscape and maintenance divisions, John started to see the company grow. He soon added an Install Foreman & Maintenance Foreman. In 2011, John then decided to add an irrigation division to his company. He purchased an existing
company and is now offering total irrigation installation and service to his clients. This has now given Nature’s Edge the ability to offer a company that is “full service.”

Throughout the years, John has had a dedication to growing his business and marketing to the 280 corridor in ways that no other landscaper can.
